If you run a small business, one of the easiest ways to get found online is by setting up your Google Business Profile.
It might sound a bit technical, but it’s actually pretty straightforward—and I’ll walk you through it step by step.
What Is a Google Business Profile?
A Google Business Profile is what shows up when someone searches for your business (or services like yours) on Google.
It includes things like:
Your business name
Contact details
Website
Reviews
Your location or service area
It’s often the first impression people get of your business—so it’s worth setting up properly.
Step 1: Sign In to Google
Head over to Google Business Profile and sign in with your Google account.
If you don’t have one yet, you’ll just need to create a free account first.
Step 2: Add Your Business Name
Type in your business name. If it pops up already, you can claim it—otherwise, you can create a new listing.
Step 3: Choose the Right Category
Pick the category that best fits what you do (for example, “Virtual Assistant” or “Administrative Service”).
This helps Google show your business to the right people.
Step 4: Set Your Location or Service Area
If you don’t have a physical office people visit, that’s completely fine.
You can list the areas you serve—like:
Wandsworth
Kingston
Richmond
Merton
This is perfect for service-based businesses working remotely.
Step 5: Add Your Contact Details
Make it easy for people to reach you:
Phone number
Your website
Double-check everything—this is how new clients will find and contact you.
Step 6: Verify Your Business
Google will ask you to confirm your business, usually by sending a code (sometimes by post, email or phone).
Once you’re verified, your profile can start appearing in search results.
Step 7: Make Your Profile Look Great
This part really makes a difference.
Take a few extra minutes to:
Write a friendly description of what you do
List your services
Add a few photos (even simple ones help!)
Set your working hours
A complete profile builds trust and makes you stand out.
Why It’s Worth Doing
Once your profile is set up, it can help you:
Get found by local clients
Build trust through reviews
Bring in enquiries without paying for ads
It’s one of the simplest ways to grow your business locally.
